Sain Zahoor – the Image of Pakistani Folk Music

sain zahoor

I first came across the soulful music from Sain Zahoor a few years back in his debut song at Coke Studio, Pakistan, where he sang Aik Alif.

It was a collaboration with many leading musician of the country. The song was sung along with a lock rock band called Noori.

From the beginning to the end, Sain Zahoor mesmerized me with his passionate and deeply resounding tone. The tone, the attitude and the pitch of the voice cannot possibly be explained in words.

I would rather have you have a listen to it yourself.

The song itself holds and immense and emotional meaning to it and it is further emphasized by the beautiful and blissful voice of Sain Zahoor.

The theme, the setup, the personality, the song, and the overall act put together in this live show is everything we as folklore lovers dream for.

Folk photography is great, we think a picture can speak a million words but music doesn’t need to speak words. It transcend that barrier altogether.

Lahooti Live Sessions – A Review

Lahooti Live Session – a phenomenon that has struck a deep cord in me. It is our passion manifested in music. While we try to capture this essence from out photographs, this idea captures it via music. Never has our travel and adventures met something as strong as this.  Music, along with photography, is a hobby that is we hold dearly in our hearts especially if it takes it roots from simplicity.

What is Lahooti Live Session?

These are sessions organized and introduced by a visionary Saif Samejo from Sindh, Pakistan who has made a platform to promote indigenous music.

Here is a musical track produced by Lahooti Live Session that shows its essence.

Moments Lahooti Live Sessions – Intro Video

So now we hope you get what Lahooti Live Sessions is all about. It is about promoting the folk music from the Indo-pak. To bask in the essence of this music, you do need to have an acquired taste. It is quite out of the ordinary and not meant for all ears just as metal is not music for the masses.

It also beats the norm of listening to the same 4 or 5 pieces of musical instruments cleverly arranged on a computer software. This is what pure talent looks like that trickles down from generations to generations.

The music here is nothing more like a secret recipe that has been passed down from a mother to a daughter.

It is pleasure and an honor to listen to this music live in person.

The Most Notable Activities of Pakistani Youth

Pakistan has one of the largest youth in the world. Even though the country is underdeveloped, the youth is extremely proactive. Like the youth of any country in today’s time, Pakistani youth has also been globalized as well as influenced by the western media.

You can see several of the western activities creeping into the Pakistani society.

Partying

Even though most of the things that considered normal in western world are considered illegal in Pakistan, the Youth still finds it ways. For example, alcohol, and dance parties have become a normal activity in the elite spheres of Pakistani youth.

Gaming

Other than that, most of the youth is a lot into gaming. You see a lot of the Pakistani kids now going around with their gaming laptop. Although they go for the most affordable gaming laptop because of the prevailing purchasing power parity of the country, the youth is still highly enthusiastic about their gaming.

Politics

The youth of Pakistan is highly politicized and very politically oriented. Most of the discussion that do take place are regarding politics one way or another.

Although this is highly encouraged in any youth of a country, in a place like Pakistan, things also get a bit violent. Differences give rise to hatred, hatred than inevitably turns into physical harm.

Education

Almost all of Urban youth population of the country is educated. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the rural population. The vast majority of the youth lives in the rural parts of the country. Sadly, due to lack of a proper education infrastructure in the rural country and prevailing feudal system, education is left on the back burner by most families who seek child labor to support their families.

The youth of Pakistan hold a lot of potential if given a proper platform. However, due to the various labeling and media trial against the country, the average person has been neglected.
